Unhappy With Your Benefits Renewal?
Benefits renewals often arrive with an increase and little explanation. Many business owners assume they have no choice but to accept it. You do. Group plans can be reviewed, redesigned and taken to market like any other business expense.
A licensed benefits advisor can explain what is driving your renewal, negotiate with your current insurer, and compare quotes from others, then manage the switch so employees do not lose coverage.

Why renewals go up
Your claims experience
High drug, dental or disability claims in the past year push rates up, especially for larger groups whose rates reflect their own experience.
Health care inflation
Insurers add a trend factor for rising drug and service costs, even for groups with low claims.
Changes in your team
An older workforce, more family coverage or a change in headcount can all affect pricing.
How to review or switch your plan
Start 60 to 90 days before your renewal date.
Gather your documents
Your renewal notice, plan booklet, recent claims reports and employee census.
Get an independent review
An advisor analyzes the renewal and challenges the assumptions with your insurer.
Compare the market
Quotes from other insurers are compared on price, coverage and service.
Manage the transition
Your advisor coordinates the change so there is no gap in coverage, including employees on disability claims.
Switching Benefits Provider FAQs
When should I start reviewing my renewal?
Ideally 60 to 90 days before the renewal date, so there is time to negotiate and compare quotes.
Will employees lose coverage if we switch?
No, if the transition is managed properly. The new plan starts the day the old one ends, and employees on existing disability claims are handled under transfer rules.
Can we reduce cost without cutting coverage?
Often. Options include adjusting plan maximums, adding a drug formulary, changing the cost sharing, or adding a health spending account instead of richer coverage.
Does it cost anything to review our plan?
Being matched with an advisor through CommercialInsurance.ca is free.

The Commercial Insurance Difference: Feedback from those referred
Proactive Broker Relationship.
The most noticeable difference was the fact that I no longer felt that I was needed to manage the broker... the brokers came to me with proactive recommendations and knew when to push and shop the market and when not to. When the topic of business insurance comes up, I always refer fellow business owners.

Security Blanket For My Business
I was always the type of customer that never believed in insurance and only really got it because I had to. Then I connected with a broker through Commercial Insurance.ca and they asked me questions no one else ever did and that's how I knew something was different. They took the time to understand and evaluate the risks. Well, I ended up getting some extra coverage (legal expense) and thank goodness I did. Something fairly innocent turned into something quite nasty and I didn't have to do too much... my coverage took care of it. Now I look at Insurance as a security blanket for my business.

They had my back
No one likes buying insurance because it's a bit of a bet against yourself. You just hope that when the bad things happen that insurance will do what it said it would do in the first place. Their specialist stand behind the policy's that they bind. They never professed to get me the best price, but they did say they have my back, and have my back, they did.
